That thread is 2 years old, and I'd probably do things differently today than I would have then. For example, I'd probably use the Yahoo UI Library (http://developer.yahoo.com/yui) for the Event handling and DOM manipulation. Also, I might look into attaching only a single event handler to the body element instead of attaching to each individual elements (since events bubble up the DOM tree).
